This is the second of a two-part blog article in which I test out the god-tier of AI copywriting, the legendary Jasper.
The first part deals with the first mode Jasper has to offer: writing a piece of content from scratch. And if you’d like to read that first, it’s here AI content writers: Jasper mode 1.
In this post, I’ll be looking at Jasper’s second mode, which gives you support writing a blog from beginning to end.
Getting started
You start the process with a set of three steps to create your content.
For this test-drive, I’m going to work with Jasper to create some content for my own website and complete one of the draft articles I have sketched out. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
The article I’m going to write
The article is called ‘Content writer vs copywriter’ — and it’s one I’ve been sitting on for a while, so maybe Jasper can help me get it written. After all, isn’t it supposed to help writers’ block?
This is an important article in that potential clients want to know the difference and are searching for the answer. But, where some copywriters have described quite a clean-cut difference, I think the boundaries are much more blurred and there’s a lot of crossover. In fact, I’m concerned there might be too much crossover to point out a distinct set of differences.
There’s a saying that ‘Content tells, copy sells’. But content can definitely sell and copy often has to tell, so this isn’t so much a firm rule as a squishy theory.
Completing the three-step process
In this mode, there’s an option to select British English, so I set that first. Then I move on to providing the information.
1. Describe the content you want to create (1000 characters)
It tells me that this is the most important step in helping Jasper understand what I want to write about. The better I can describe what I want to write, the higher quality content Jasper will help me produce.
The box has a 1,000-character limit, so there’s plenty of scope to add information and ideas.
I enter:
Content writer vs copywriter. An article giving a comparison of the two.
What is a content writer?
What skills does a content writer need?
What is a copywriter?
What skills does a copywriter need?
What is the difference between copy and content?
How are content writing and copywriting different?
How are content writing and copywriting the same?
I also have the option to enter three keywords, so I enter:
Content writer vs copywriter, content writing, copywriting
2. Title (60 characters)
You can write your own title or ask Jasper to generate three ideas for you.
I already have my SEO title, so I put that in, but I’ll also ask Jasper for ideas, because this is an experiment after all.
My title: Content writer vs copywriter
Jasper’s three suggestions:
- Content Writer vs. Copywriter: What’s the Difference?
- Content Writer vs. Copywriter: What’s the Difference?
Okay, so there are only two and they’re both the same, but I quite like Jasper’s suggestion, so let’s go with that.
3. Intro paragraph
Again, you can choose to write your own intro, or ask Jasper for three ideas.
I usually write my intro paragraph last, but if Jasper’s going to do it for me, I’m not going to say no to that.
Jasper’s three ideas:
Do you know the difference between a content writer and a copywriter? If not, don’t worry – you’re not alone. A lot of people don’t know the difference, or they assume that the two are one and the same. But there is a big distinction between the two jobs, and it’s important to understand what each one entails. In this article, we will compare content writing and copywriting, and explain how they differ from each other.
I definitely don’t want to say there’s a big difference, because I don’t believe there is. What else have you got for me?
When it comes to writing for the web, there are two main types of writers: content writers and copywriters. Though they share some similarities, there are also some key differences between the two positions. In this article, we will take a closer look at both content writing and copywriting, and explore how these two roles differ. We will also discuss the skills that you need in order to be successful in each field. So, what is the difference between a content writer and a copywriter? Let’s find out!
Okay… and the third idea?
Oh, there doesn’t seem to be one. We’re only three steps in and Jasper has come up short twice. That’s not a good start!
The second intro is better and more along the lines of what I was thinking, so let’s go with that.
Now we’re all set, so let’s create some content!
When you click through to the next stage, you get the same screen I got in mode 1, so it looks like we’re back to manually inserting headings and asking Jasper to write.

This is the introduction I created in step three — and it’s okay, I guess, so let’s move on to the definitions.
What is a content writer?
A content writer is someone who writes original content for the web, often for websites and blogs. They may create articles, blog posts, product descriptions, or any other type of written content. In order to be a successful content writer, you need to have strong writing skills and knowledge of SEO best practices.
What skills does a content writer need?
A content writer needs strong writing skills and knowledge of SEO best practices. They should also be able to work with a range of brands and understand their tone of voice. Additionally, content writers need to be able to research topics thoroughly and produce well-researched content. Finally, they must be able to stay up-to-date with the latest changes in SEO and adapt their writing accordingly.
What is a copywriter?
Copywriters are responsible for creating effective marketing materials such as brochures, website copy, and email campaigns. They typically have experience in advertising or public relations, and they know how to write persuasive copy that will compel people to take action. To be a successful copywriter, you need excellent writing skills as well as an understanding of what makes people buy things.

? Zzzzz…
Sorry, I think I drifted off there for a minute!
Aside from this being really boring, I’m not really understanding what the difference is. Because there are things in the content writer section that you could also say about copywriters and vice versa.
To me, this pretty much illustrates what I said about this article in the beginning. There’s too much crossover and no clear distinction between the two.
Maybe the next paragraph will shed some more light on it…
What is the difference between copy and content?
Copy is the written word, while content is the information that copy is based on. Copywriters use their writing skills to create persuasive and effective marketing materials, while content writers produce original content for websites and blogs. Content writers need to have a strong understanding of what makes people buy things, while copywriters also need experience in advertising or public relations.
… okay, maybe not then!
How are content writing and copywriting different?
Content writing and copywriting are different in that copywriting typically involves creating marketing materials such as ads, while content writing produces original content for websites and blogs. Copywriters need to have strong writing skills and experience in advertising or public relations, while content writers need to understand what makes people buy things.
Not here, either.
How are content writing and copywriting the same?
Both content writing and copywriting require strong writing skills, as well as an understanding of what makes people buy things. Additionally, both types of writing involve creating original content. However, copywriting typically involves creating marketing materials such as ads, while content writing produces original content for websites and blogs.

How does Jasper’s article score?
I haven’t written article to compare this to, so let’s just look at Jasper’s article.
Readability score
I tested Jasper’s article with the Flesch Reading Ease feature in Yoast.
Jasper’s article scored 50.1, which is considered fairly difficult to read.
But it’s a better score than the first article it wrote, which scored 57.
This article was marked down because 27.3% of the sentences contain more than 20 words.
Research
How well did Jasper research its article?
I think I set it an impossible task. I said in the beginning I didn’t think the difference was pronounced enough and Jasper’s article kind of proved that.
Could it have done better?
Its answers were vague, simplistic and didn’t give a lot of detail — so, yes.
Tone and style
I won’t mince my words here, this article was so dull and boring I almost fell asleep! And it goes without saying that I won’t be publishing it as an article in its own right.
This may be because the subject matter is dull and boring. But isn’t that why we’re using Jasper in the first place? And isn’t it supposed to make the writing process better?
If I could be bothered to write this myself, at least I’d inject some dry humour about the pointlessness of the article and explain why the difference doesn’t really matter that much.
But that’s the difference between a human writer and a bot.
Human writers understand their human audience.
